Moe Dixon Bio

Moe Dixon grew up in western Massachusetts. His first instrument was the cello,  and he started playing guitar at the age of seven. In his youth, the Berkshire Mtns of Mass. were a mecca  for good musicians and songwriters, so it was easy to be around some of the best performers in the country.

By his early teens he was performing all over New England and gaining influences from the street musicians of New York City.

“Willow” became the first nationally known group he played in. They performed from Vermont to Florida-but he then decided to take some time off.

After a two year break, he surfaced on the solo folk scene and became one of the top performers in the country.

“Sunflower” was a group put together for the “World Hunger Year “ Concerts. Linda Worcester, Cary Rosen, Bill Shontz and the “University of New Hampshire Caravan Tour”.  Dixon became the lead guitarist and filled a slot in the harmony singing, this group was magical!

Halfway through the tour, Linda left the group and it became known as "Rosen Shontz and Dixon. the next four years, the group performed all over the country and became a well known act on the folk circuit. At the Festival, they would also perform children's concerts. This would become a bigger market for the group.

After a tragic ski accident he decided to take more time off and relocate to Copper Mtn, Breckenridge, and Keystone  Colorado. Within a year, he was back on the circuit, only this time, as a powerful solo entertainer, blues and ragtime guitarist/vocalist. At this time he was drawing huge crowds at his Breckenridge and Copper Mountian aprés ski shows. He became well know west of the Mississippi.

In 1984, he travelled to the Northwest to go windsurfing on the Columbia River Gorge, he bought the top of a mountain, built a beautiful home, and decided this was a great place to spend the summer months. He never expected what would happen next in his career.

Articles in U.S.A. Today, The Oregonian, and every windsurfing magazine in the world have put his show in Hood River Oregon on the international  “map”. It  has been selling out for years.

He spent winters in Colorado where he coached ski racing for Ski Club Vail.

Since then he has written themes and soundtracks, everything from  Windsurfing Video’s to Bob Hope T.V. specials, Warren Miller Ski Films and children's music.

He still enjoys athletics in a delicate balance to his music career. Time off means skiing over 100 days a year, windsurfing, kayaking, mountain biking, motorcycling on three continents, golfing etc. Did I miss anything MOE!

MOE’s philosophy on life and performing is: “Play the show like it might be your last.!!”

Most recently, 6/10/06 Moe had the pleasure of being a guest artist with the West Suburban Chicago Symphony Orchestra. they performed eight of Moe’s compositions!

SKIING MAGAZINE says  Moe’s aprés show  at Copper Mountain Colorado is the best aprés ski show in North America.

Glock-Jackson organizer of the Olalla, Washington Bluegrass festival  quotes  “I was actually told by some people “I dont care who you get, this year, just make sure you get Moe Dixon!!!"

Moe has 2 new CD’s coming out late this fall to order, e-mail aemusic@ earthlink.net
